Get prepared

Everything you need before your visit.

Before Your Appointment

1) Your child will need to be seen by his or her pediatrician within 30 days of your sedation
appointment. The Pediatrician will complete a pre-surgical medical clearance letting us
know that your child is healthy and cleared for treatment.
2) Your child cannot have anything to eat or drink for 8 hours before the procedure time. If
they eat or drink, there is an increased risk and the procedure will be cancelled upon arrival.
The exceptions are a glass of water up to 2 hours before the surgery and plain Jell-O (no milk
or fruit in it) up to 4 hours before the surgery.
3) The day of the surgery, we will meet with you and discuss the potential treatment plan. If
your child was previously unable to take x-rays or sit for a complete exam, we will conduct a
full exam and take digital x-rays, while your child is asleep.
4) Upon completion of the procedure, the final treatment will be discussed in detail and all
post-op instructions will be discussed with you before going home.

Day Of Appointment

1) Please arrive early for your appointment, arriving late may cause your child’s appointment
time to be changed or forfeited.
2) At least one parent or legal guardian is required to be present the day of surgery. If a parent
or legal guardian cannot be present, a notarized signed letter must be completed prior to
the procedure date.
3) Your child should continue to take all his or her regularly prescribed medications the day of
surgery unless specified otherwise.
4) If your child is still in diapers or potty training, placing your child in a clean dry diaper prior
to surgery may help decrease the chance of your child having a potty ‘accident’ during/after
surgery.
5) Your child will want all your love and undivided attention before and after his or her
procedure. If you must bring another child, make sure to have another adult over the age of
18 with you.

After The Surgery

1) The doctor will review all treatment completed and review post-operative instructions with
you.
2) Signs & symptoms of your child after surgery:

o Grogginess or sleepiness
o Disorientation and easily agitated
